Make yourself at home in the outback and camp out under the Red Centre's spectacular ceiling of stars. Simply roll out a swag, pitch a tent or pull up your campervan at one of the many campgrounds around Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon.

Rock out in the red centre

Pitch your tent in the shade of native desert oaks in the Ayers Rock Campground in Uluru-Kata-Tjuta National Park. It's as close as you can camp to Australia's most famous natural landmark and is a perfect base for exploring the extraordinary surrounding landscape. Here you're in pole position to get a good spot at the viewing areas for sunrise and sunset over the 'rock', and to set out on short, day and multi-day walks.

Campsites fit for a king

Give your camping trip the royal treatment and base yourself at a campsite bordering Watarrka National Park, home of spectacular Kings Canyon. Set yourself up at one of the shady sites in the campground at Kings Canyon Resort, which is equipped with great facilities and even better sunsets. Or, head further down the road to Kings Creek Station for a slice of station life as well as a majestic place to camp at the foot of the magnificent George Gill Range.

Put some spring in your swag

Camp out at Curtin Springs Station on the Lasseter Highway, 85 kilometres east of the entrance to Uluru-Kata-Tjuta National Park. A day-tripper's delight, this working cattle station offers travellers the opportunity to explore nature by day and relax in the pub at night.

Camping tours

If DIY camping is falling fast into the too-hard basket, consider a camping tour. Local tour operators offer all kinds of camping adventures, ranging from bush-camping to 'glamping', along with sight-seeing tours. No camping equipment required – all you need to pack is your sense of adventure.
