Discover Tennant Creek's great outdoors. From hiking and camping to fishing and four-wheel-drive adventures, get out there and experience the best of the region in its national parks and reserves.

Devil's playground

Both Karlu Karlu/Devils Marbles and the Davenport Conservation Reserve are great spots to pitch a tent and discover the regions' rich flora and fauna. Longreach Waterhole, Renner Springs and Connells Lagoon Nature Reserve attract large numbers of wildlife and provides great opportunities for birdwatchers – including many rare and endangered species.

On the trail

Numerous walking trails throughout Tennant Creek allow travellers to roll up their swags and experience the plants, birds and landscapes of the environment up close. Walk through the Honeymoon Ranges along the track to Lake Mary Ann, located five kilometres north-east of the town – the perfect spot for a swim and a picnic.

Local dreaming

The Davenport Ranges have important associations for Aboriginal people. Artefacts relating to the Warumungu, Alyawarre and Kaytetye people remain and 'Dreamtime' stories are told among these ancient people, who retain strong a connection with the land. Take the 45-minute walk through the Jim Rennie Memorial Park at Elliott, and get an introduction to local flora and its traditional uses by Aboriginal people.

4WD

Many of the best spots in Tennant Creek can only be reached by 4WD, and drivers will discover plenty of fascinating nooks and crannies along the way. Explore the Frew River Track, an exciting alternative route to The Old Police Station Waterhole in The Davenport Range National Park. Visitors with a little more time on their hands can get a real taste of the outback by setting up camp at a local outback cattle station like the vast Banka Banka Station.
