Whether it is silk screening, lino block printing or pottery, art is a fantastic part of life here.

The Tiwi people are very out-going and self-confident and that makes it a lot easier.

You can really get a sense of what that’s all about by meeting and talking to the artists.

One of the highlights of the day for most people is an hour with the local morning tea ladies, a group of older Tiwi women. They make Billy tea and damper.

It’s a great chance to sit down with the ladies and learn how to weave pandanas or where they collect their materials from for their beautiful weaving.

Even though it’s structured, it’s not a show. You see what the day-to-day life is really like.

You feel like a part of the community for the day and the interaction strengthens everybody. It is a very special place.
