National parks

An hour's drive out of Alice Springs you'll find the colourful landscapes and gorges of the West MacDonnell National Park. Dive into picturesque swimming holes such as Ellery Creek Big Hole and Redbank Gorge, and stay a few nights in the local campgrounds. They offer powered and unpowered sites, fixed tents, BBQs, public telephone and toilets.

Travel to the lesser-known but just as spectacular East MacDonnell Ranges - the gateway to the central Australian gem fields. After a day of exploring, relax at The Gemtree Caravan and Tourist Park, a spacious bush setting with modern and clean amenities.

The Finke Gorge National Park is home to the exotic flora of Palm Valley. The park offers camping facilities both in the park and at the nearby historical town of Hermannsburg. Roll out a swag or pitch a tent by the Finke River, one of the world's oldest rivers.

In town

The desert climate of Alice Springs encourages a healthy outdoor lifestyle, so why not make it a base for your outback adventure? Pitch your tent and set up camp in one of the town's friendly and well maintained campgrounds.

After setting up, get to know the history of the land you're camping on by taking a guided Aboriginal art and culture tour, or just spend the day exploring the city of Alice Springs.
