Desert Song festival in Alice Springs celebrates the magic of singing, showcasing a diversity of works performed by Aboriginal and community choirs.
Fresh from their collaboration and appearances with the Soweto Gospel Choir, the desert choirs return with their beautiful harmonies, celebrating the magic of the human voice through 'freedom songs' and sacred music preserved in the ancient and enduring languages of the Centre. Desert Song Festival 2014 commemorates the life of Nelson Mandela.
Asante Sana, remote community choirs, School and youth choirs, solo artists and ensembles, will present concerts set in Central Australia's majestic landscape and heritage locations. 'Desert Song Central' the 'Open Stage', will feature informal performances, impromptu recitals, busking and 'vocal jamming'.
This community festival includes signature events within the central Australian arts and cultural calendar including A Cappella in the Gorge at Ormiston Gorge and Desert Voice at Araluen Theatre.
